In the Mystery’s Shadow:

Reflections on Caring for the Elderly and Dying

Susan is delighted to announced that her ninth book, In the Mystery’s Shadow: Reflections on Caring for the Elderly and Dying, will be published by Liturgical Press, Collegeville, Minnesota in June of 2019. Based on her experiences as a hospice care massage therapist, it invites family and professional caregivers (and those who might be called to take on this work) to imagine their labors as invitations to deep reflection and personal/spiritual growth—to think of the work in a new light, as vocation. The book’s anecdote-laden chapters blend personal narrative, up-to-date research from a variety of published sources in multiple fields, commiseration and practical help for caregivers, and reflection.

The book is available from Liturgical Press and Amazon.com.

Susan will be presenting and anticipates a book signing in Chicago at the 2019 National Caregiving Conference, Nov. 7-10; a spin-off article will appear in June in St. Anthony Messenger magazine. Locally, she’ll be featured artist (along with guitarist Bill O’Brien) at The Gallows for the July, 2019 Artwalk, where books will be available for purchase and signing. More events are pending—stay tuned!
